Canyon Dancer This image was taken in Alta Dena, CA, with a large format (4×5 inch) negative camera. The woman is my best friend from college, and we photographed each other that day in the canyon for a school assignment “figure in a landscape”. The dry creekbed, rocks, and plants all give superb texture for this gentle image of a dancer. 4″ x 5″ negative. Prints available, contact the artist: karen@rainsongdesign.net

Women’s Collage class was fun and connecting!

Posted by on Dec 6, 2016 in Creativity Blog | 0 comments

We had such a nice time making collages about hope and peace last week! I had four women attend my class, and all the money was donated to 350.org, one of my favorite local environmental activist organizations. It felt good to make something beautiful and inspiring, images of what is worth saving in the world, what we hold sacred, to look at every day. The collages could be for meditation, inspiration or just decoration, but either way, everyone left happy and feeling good....

Making wreaths- fun and easy!

Posted by on Oct 19, 2016 in Creativity Blog | 0 comments

I’ve had so much fun lately making wreaths, and they are so easy- just some supplies and a glue gun! Of course, not everyone has the space at their house to spread out all the fun supplies and let their creativity bloom- that’s why I started some classes. We have a very full class tomorrow night of ladies and some daughters coming over to make harvest and halloween wreaths. I had a blast at Michael’s picking out some florals and ribbons and stuff. Got a...

Collage: fun for the family

I started out to make something. I had no idea what it was going to be. My friend and her daughter were visiting from out of town and along with my stepdaughter who is seven, we needed a fun project to do in my new home studio. Voila! Collages- easy and fun! I have tons of scraps saved up over about 20 years of collecting. With the right glue- repositionable paste- and a mountain of stuff to sift through, we spent about 2 hours making some fun creations! I found a central...

Spring is coming!

I’m so excited for the sunny weather to return! Springtime always makes me get out into my garden and start creating pretty little tableaus out in the yard. I love statues and seashells, whimsical art and dangling jewels…it is a journey of discovery for first time visitors to my yard. It is a relief after the cold, rainy months to spend time in the yard reading a book, having a meal, or drinking wine by candlelight.
