I started out to make something.<\/p>\n

I had no idea what it was going to be. My friend and her daughter were visiting from out of town and along with my stepdaughter who is seven, we needed a fun project to do in my new home studio. Voila! Collages- easy and fun! I have tons of scraps saved up over about 20 years of collecting. With the right glue- repositionable paste- and a mountain of stuff to sift through, we spent about 2 hours making some fun creations! I found a central image that really spoke to me- that caught in my hand. A floating goddess woman who seemed to be holding something in her raised hand. Then I found a striking background image. My process proceeds in a way that is similar to playing- opening myself up to creativity- to trying something, then something else, accepting and rejecting as I go along. I think of it as listening to my muse. It involves being discerning and allowing myself time to play.<\/p>\n

We four had a great time sharing things with each other that we found (“Oh- here is a blue butterfly for you!”) and learning about new techniques and tools (slow drying repositionable glue is the best<\/em>.)<\/p>\n

Collaging is a great craft art because you can do it with mixed ages and there are no rules. We added colored pencil, ribbons, stickers, and fabric trims. I decided after I started cutting out some butterflies that my Goddess woman was the lady of the beasts and then I started hunting for animals. The girls really had fun helping with that.<\/p>\n

I find that picking a limited color pallette goes a long way toward keeping the collage appealing….<\/p>\n
