Birch Dental Lab: Rebranding for a Competitve Market

When Carrie Peil Warner, a local dental lab owner, came to me, she had a logo that was not working for her. It was a soft drawing of a birch tree section with a few branches. Nice, but it definitely didn't say "high-tech lab." She needed a total rebrand, from the logo up, and marketing materials that would really put her on the map. After some industry research, we created a logo to be in keeping with the look of other businesses in her field: a clean, modern image.

She also needed business cards, a new sign for the exterior of her office, a web site and a postcard series to advertise her new look and services. She had seen my mailers and wanted a similar series to go out to her clients and prospective clients. We created a total brand based on her needs, which centered on the relationship of local business and global economy, as well as a "green" business concept. This branding overhaul not only gave her a great new look, but also improved her image in the dental lab field.

The web site we created for her is nearly complete (see it here.) It includes a content management system so Carrie can log in to her site from any computer and make simple changes and updates herself. The bottom, green content area has an RSS feed about dental technology, and a listing of her most recent e-newsletters to browse through. There is also a list of recent blog postings on the site so visitors can stay in touch with her current news. The site also contains downloadable forms for her clients use, an e-newsletter subscribe form, and a contact form.

Her three part postcard series was effective and inspired, adding to her reputation and boosting her business. Her core values of being environmentally-friendly was emphasized, and the juxtaposition of local/global economy was a key message. Overall, the re-branding was a huge success, with more to come!
